If you are new to art selection for interior design interns, here’s what we need to get started.
Congratulations! You have the interior design intern position you really wanted! You have put in the hours and lots of hard work. Now it’s time to get in there and show who you are!
One of your new duties may be working with an art provider to select images and wall décor options. You want to collaborate with an art partner that knows the ropes and supports your process. At Booth Framing, we often work with interns or new designers. This is Part 1 of 2. Here are the details we ask for to best support you and your project.
Overall description of the project: New build or renovation; senior, independent living, assisted living, memory care, medical, multifamily. What makes it unique? What is the project location?
Color boards and FF&E documents: Paint colors, furniture selections and fabrics, window dressings, flooring; what is the overall design concept? What is the color environment for the art? Is the art to reflect the dominant color scheme or be the pop of color?
Plans: A clean set of plans that show the entire space as well as the spaces designated for art are essential for art placement, sizing and installation documents. You can consult with us about placements and we can produce a redline set of plans. Note ceiling and chair rail heights, or niches that will contain art where a specified size is needed.
Art concept: What does the end user envision? Landscapes/abstracts/florals, photography or fine art, local scenes, local artists, framed images on paper, canvas, 3-D wall décor? Provide pictures of any existing artwork that will be reused.
Searchable website: You can explore our website to find concept images, set up an account with us and we can share them. boothframing.com/art-catalog/
Budget: Does the project have a financial budget? Does this include freight and installation or are they separate line items? Is there a piece count? Any other parameters that need to be considered?
Installation date: When will the project be installed? Many times this is based on the furniture delivery date or the move-in date. Finalizing artwork selections as early as possible helps us cover any issues during production to ensure that you meet your required dates.
Remember, we are here to assist you, provide guidance and options in a collaborative process. You can sign up on our website and create an account to search our database: boothframing.com/art-catalog/. The final decision is yours as you hold the big picture. We’ve got you covered!
Ready for what happens next? Read Part 2 to see how we turn these details into a finished installation. And if you’d like this list handy for your next project, download our quick-reference art selection checklist (available after July 21). This is perfect for keeping on hand as you gather your project details.
